With Birth You Put Things Into Action.

The wind blows where it wills, and you can hear the sound it makes, but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes; so it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit. John 3: 8  Born of the Spirit. Again the birth metaphor.  To be born, to renew  But born can mean to accept, acknowledge, to support. With birth you put things into action.  You can belong.  You can carry.  Nicodemus, a  Pharisees: those Jews who were strict adherents to the Law, and Jesus were talking; its clear that Nicodemus is respectful of Jesus' view, even a little curious about them, he may not agree with what Jesus has to say but he will listen.  Jesus on his part wants Nicodemus to understand his message and become part of his mission, to convert him to his ways of thinking and acting.

Now Jesus is speaking to Nicodemus about his death and resurrection, the fact that he will be going to heaven and no-one knows anything about what happens to us when we die, expect for those of us who have dead; so the traditional concept to pull from this is eternal life.  But because the Gospels, the Scriptures are a living thing that is what struck me.  Because when we begin any reading of Scared Scripture with prayer, that is not the message God wanted me to have.

The winds blows where it wills, but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes...so it is with everyone born of the Spirit.  This really hit me this morning.  I have been battling with some really huge emotional-spiritual changes in my life, a letting go if you like, a rebirth, so these Gospels have been speaking to me: especially this one.  Nicodemus, adhering to his view, Jesus wanting him to understand his mission and part of his mission: Could easily read Patty adhering to her old, tired, worn-out views, Jesus wanting her to understand his mission, for her, and be part of that mission.

  1. The Scriptures just seem to speak directly to each of us where we are. Amazing.

    1. Scripture are the Living Love Letter of God, so it would make sense that He decide to leave a love note when I needed one!
