"In the relatively isolated workplace of motherhood..."; this profound statement and observation came from a wonderful blogging Catholic Mom: Amy Jane Helmericks, @UntanglingTales, who writes the blog: Untaglingtales. I wish I had written that profound statement, but am glad that another mother/women wrote those words for they speak to the feeling that many moms feel, and the hope I have in providing Spiritual Direction to these moms.
All mothers, working in the home and out, can relate to that statement. It speaks to a real need we have as moms to have a supportive community around us when the work gets hard. In a "ordinary" workplace you get rewards and acknowledgement for the work you put in: a salary, a raise, bonus, promotion. As a mom those things come in ways of kisses from sticky toddlers, help from eager little pumpkins, dinner picked by your hubby and the promotion when your children are successful and on their own. Our workplace, motherhood, is like no other, we are required to be on call 24/7, we are required to learn on the job, there is no time off, true sick days or paid vacations; but it the best job in the world!
